Management Practices
Feed:
The hogs are moved through pasture every 47 days allowing them to receive a fresh round of grasses, forbs, and insects throughout the growing season. In season they are given spent vegetables, fruit and nuts from Glade Road Growing and other local farms.Twice a day they are given water and a small ration of Non-GMO grain from Sunrise Farm Inc. For dessert, when available, they are given spent grain from Rising Silo Brewery and other home brewers.

Breed:
All known pasture breeds have been acquired and are currently interbreeding to develop a strong hybrid that will exhibit the following traits and needs:
• Thrive on 75-85% of diet in pasture crops, vegetables, fruits, and nuts.
• A 50%, or greater, reduction in grain requirements than other pasture growers.
• Dark, well-marbled,nutrient-dense meat
• Colorful, monounsaturated fats rich in antioxidants (akin to high quality olive oil)
• Friendly, docile temperament for ease of conditioning
• Dark-haired (important for fat development) and a medium stature
