2026 Vegetable Production Team Member
Full-Time | 32-40 hrs/week, year-round
$19/hr

Our passion is providing healthy food directly to our community, to people from all walks of life, year-round. Be a part of that by helping us consistently deliver high-quality vegetables to our customers by completing farm work with speed, quality, reliability, and a positive attitude every day of the season.
Receive valuable on-the-job training and experiences in all stages of lean vegetable production from seeding to selling, harvesting for quality, farm mechanization with specialized equipment, customer delivery, teamwork, and financial insight into starting and running a small business. Winter work includes winter vegetable harvest, firewood, assisting in vital farm infrastructure repairs and project upgrades.
Opportunities for growth and pay increases for the right dedicated people to become part of our core vegetable production managers and team leaders. Managers receive deeper training and knowledge in areas such as team leadership, plant nutrition, soil building, cover crops, organic fertilization, organic pest management protocols, plant propagation, irrigation, and/or tractor cultivation.
We care about our staff and invest in their success. Many of our best employees return for multiple seasons, and some hope to operate farms of their own one day.
Small-scale vegetable farming is not for everyone. It’s as important to us as it is to you that you’re happy and feel you’re a good fit here.
We’re seeking:
- Reliability– Be present, on time, and ready to work throughout the season, demonstrating the consistency needed for a small farm team to succeed.
- Work Quality– Consistently complete harvesting, transplanting seedlings, direct seeding, field cultivation, greenhouse production and trellising, washing, packing, and other farm tasks to Glade Road Growing quality standards with minimal rework required.
- Productivity– Meet or exceed established crew benchmarks for production tasks while maintaining quality standards.
- Coachability– Demonstrate the ability to learn new skills, apply feedback, and improve performance throughout the season.
- Team Contribution– Contribute positively to crew culture by maintaining a constructive attitude, supporting teammates, and adapting to changing farm conditions to accomplish daily goals.
What a typical day looks like:
- Meet with our vegetable team each morning for to review the day’s outlook.
- Head to the greenhouses and fields in golf carts to harvest healthy crops using a range of hand-harvest tools and mechanized harvest tools and equipment.
- Deliver harvests to the farm stand to prep for sale or cold storage.
- Group homemade lunch using farm ingredients provided daily on-site. Time provided during lunch f to talk shop and socialize.
- Work in small teams on afternoon vegetable production projects like greenhouse tomato trellising, transplanting, crop care and soil cultivation.
- Project wrap-up and daily debrief by day’s end.
- Take home fresh vegetables and eggs and make a healthy dinner for yourself.
Qualifications
Required
- Excellent physical fitness, stamina, and range of motion.
- Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 40 pounds safely.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently for extended periods.
- Positive attitude.
- Responsible and reliable.
- Comfortable receiving and applying constructive feedback.
- Reliable transportation.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around children and large farm dogs.
- Ability to stay focused without earbuds, vaping, or cell phone distractions during work.
Preferred
- Demonstrated history of reliability and strong work ethic.
- Interest in farming, food systems, gardening, or agricultural careers a plus.
- Previous farm, landscaping, construction, outdoor labor, athletic, or other physically demanding work experience a plus.

Glade Road Growing is a small, family farm in Blacksburg based out of our home. We grow certified naturally grown vegetables year-round as well as pasture-raised pork and poultry, and sell directly to the public through our farm stand and farm share. Besides ourselves, we hire a motivated staff to help us. Many of our employees return for multiple seasons. Our farm business provides a livelihood for our family and our staff, which we take seriously. Like most small farms, ours is a continual work in progress.
